Welcome to the show "Get Moxie", my new podcast, being launched in July of 2015. The podcast is an exploration of local people who display Moxie. Moxie is a neologism that made its way into the American lingo after a drink by this name was introduced on the market in 1876 by Dr. Ausgustin Thompson in Lowell, MA. He claimed the concoction would cure nervousness and insomnia as well as 'softening of the brain'. Users of the beverage reported feeling brave, courageous and self-assured (probably because the product likely contained cocaine). Be that as it may, the name ultimately (through shrewd marketing of the beverage) came to be a synonym for being courageous, brave and spirited - as in: That dude's got moxie. This show is a collection of interviews with local people who have Moxie. My goal is to spread the Moxie. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!
Episode 1 Introduction- This is the first episode of my podcast, Get Moxie, which is dedicated to interviewing people who have 'Moxie' - courage, bravery, knowledge, self-disicpline and self-esteem. The goal of the show is to explore the lives of these people, especially attitudes, routines and ways of thinking - all in the name of spreading the moxie.
Episode 2 - Keith Wells. This is my first live podcast interview with Keith, a successful local businessman and good friend. We talk about routines, fear, intiative and the mindset it takes to make success happen. What it takes to 'have moxie'.
Episode 3 - Scot Goskowicz. In this episode I interview Scot Goskowicz, an advisor for the Small Business Administration of NE Indiana. We discuss helping people to achieve their dreams - Scot has a really cool job. We also discuss altruism, relationships, and 'showing up every day'. These are keys to thinking like successful people think.
Episode 4 - Chris Blake. Chris is a consultant for the City of Fort Wayne, IN. He developed the F4 program - Fighting For a Fitter Fort in 2014. This program is aimed at getting Fort Wayne into the top 10 list of healthiest cities in the US. In this show we talk about fitness - mental, physical, spiritual and emotional. We explore the thinking behind the thinking. You will learn about 'reverse engineering' and what it takes to re-engineer the most dynamic machine on the planet - you! (link to the Backward's Bicycle video)
Episode 5 - Bernadette Gleeson. My guest on this show is Bernadette Gleeson: Motivational speaker, recovery coach, entrepreneur and energizer bunny. I get excited just sitting in a room with her. She brings the passion and she brings it hard. This gal has Moxie - for sure. In this episode we talk about: Her new business endeavor Trek Unlimited Recovery. Her experience giving a TED talk (link to TED talk). Her hopes, her dreams, her fears, her failures and her awesome triumphs and most importantly her thinking. How did her thinking have to change to make success happen? How did she shift her paradigm? How does she quiet the negative messages we all seem to have about ourselves? And how can you make that happen too?
Episode 6 - Chris Blake (round 2). About 6 months ago I ran across a YouTube video by Destin Sandlin from his show smarter every day called the Backwards Bicycle (click this link to view Destin’s video). I was immediately enthralled with what I was watching. Destin was just screwing around with an invention that his engineers had put together as kind of a joke - at least that is how Destin portrays it. I am pretty sure Dustin could not of known what kind of an impact this little video would have on people like me and ultimately my clients. Leaping off of the computer screen was something that paralleled the ideas that I have been talking about with clients for years. I immediately began showing the video to many of my clients and explaining the parallels. During one of my meetings with Chris Blake I showed the video to him as well. Now, most of my clients are intrigued by the video, but Chris did what none of my clients ever did – he went out and had a backwards bike built for himself - that's Chris, passionate about ideas. Several weeks ago Chris sent me his own videotapes of his first attempts to ride his very own backwards bike which he named – Back Betty (click this link to view Chris’s video). So I just had to have Chris back on the show to discuss this project and what it means to both of us and where he plans to go with it.
Episode 7 - Erin Scheele. In this episode I have a conversation with Erin Scheele: devoted wife, mother of 3 young children, full time personal trainer, life coach, business owner, entrepreneur, and oh … by the way … currently completing a Masters in Business administration … that’s all. This gal has Moxie for sure. We talk about motivation, fear, how Erin thinks her way to success, how she over-comes her own negative thinking and the keys to success – showing up every day and never quitting.
Episode 8 - Justin Springer In this episode I have a conversation with Justin Springer: the owner of Fort Wayne Strength and Conditioning and Guerilla Crossfit, in Fort Wayne, IN – that’s g-u-e-r-r-i-l-la, as in military, special forces. In this interview we discuss fear and failure, and mental strategies to work around both. To become a Guerrilla is to ardently oppose mediocrity of any kind. We are a group of people who take 100% responsibility for our lives and do whatever we can to improve the lives of others. Well played – Justin! We talk about mindsets, optimal human performance, providing perspective, and peeling back the layers of the onion. We explore strategies for flushing the brain, getting out of the drift, and practicing routines – exercise, journaling and meditating.
Episode 9 - Jared Hochstedler (1) You are going to want to hear this. I interview Jared Hochstedler who is a savvy, successful, businessman and entrepreneur. There is a twist - he got himself in a bit of trouble, actually quite a bit. Tune in to hear how Jared talks about his life, his mistakes, his penalties and what he has learned. You will not be disappointed - Jared has moxie. This episode is 1 of 2 episodes. Be sure to listen to them in order.
Episode 10 - Jared Hochstedler (2) This is the second of 2 interviews with Jared, one prior to sentencing for tax evasion, and this one after learning he will be spending 2 years in federal prison. Jared has a lot of guts to share this story with the world - it is compelling. This, in my book, is 'Moxie on display'. I hope you are as inspired as I was!!
