Deciding whether or not to seek counseling can be a scary experience. What does it mean about me that I am going to counseling? What will people think if they find out? What will happen when I get there? How much is this going to cost? These are valid questions. Although our society has come a long way in terms of valuing the art of counseling, some stigmas still exist. This page is designed to answer many of the usual questions people have when they are considering counseling.
Good question! But one that does have an answer. We keep doing the things we don't want to do, over and over again, because of something we call a 'belief system'. Each of us has one, and essentially it 'runs the show.' In order to make a change to our belief system, we have to identify the beliefs (often hidden in our subconscious) that are controlling the action, dismantle them and construct new, more adaptive beliefs. Sound simple? Unfortunately its not! The good news is that with the right coaching, it is very doable. For information see the articles: "How to Change a Core Belief" and "Anatomy of a Mistake." Come see how this is works!!

It is our philosophy at Take Charge that the most important thing is to begin to gain control of your thinking and begin to feel better. Yes, we need to get paid for what we do, but that is secondary - we have many innovative ways to work that out - from monthly payments to in-house credit. We pledge to make your experience affordable for you.
Counseling costs can vary widely. Rates vary from about $100 to $200 per hour. The average cost for therapy is about $150 per session. $125 per hour is the current rate at Take Charge, however, we offer many options for payment. Sessions can also be purchased in 'bulk' which greatly reduces the cost per session.
We are in-network with most major insurance companies and will file your claims for you. You are only responsible for the deductible and co-pay.
If you do not have insurance, we will gladly make adjustments based on income (sliding fee scale).
While therapy may seem like a significant expense, remember, the cost of divorce is often many times more than one would ever spend in therapy and there is no price that can be placed on taking charge of your own thinking and living the life you have always dreamed about.
According to information provided by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, mental health services provided by Family Therapists are quite cost-effective. The AAMFT states that average costs for marriage and family counseling are typically 60% that of of psychiatrists and 80% of psychologists. The AAMFT further states that family therapy requires 30% fewer sessions than individual therapy. Another interesting thing to consider when evaluating the cost of marriage and family counseling is that family therapy has been shown to reduce health care use by 21.5%.
